A baby was strapped to my back as the other crawled in the playpen. I stayed up all night days over months of sanding, and removing wallpaper, with one child. Ha! The house was starting to look nice, but there was a lot to be done. For furnishing the space, it was going to be a huge effort with regards to budget and time. It was also going to be a challenge go to my favorite stores. My sons, my husband and I searched for hidden gems while at estate sales to reduce my expenses. The schedule we had for the week which consisted of spending the week from Friday through Saturday at estate and garage sales, shopping for new and used things. I spent the rest of the week painting and sanding on the driveway. The furniture looked like this... which is the place I discovered my love for restoration. After our home was fully decorated, I couldn't stop! At the local market I was able to rent a tiny space, and also sold items. Eventually, my collection grew enough that the area I had available was inadequate. My home became a place in which I held open houses where up to 1,000 people could view items from the first floor, and then purchase these items. This is where my business Growing Days was born. The business I was running was growing however my family was also growing. In a way, I found the ideal balance between being a mum as well as starting my own company. Growing Days fit perfectly. Nora, my 4th kid was born in 2013. My business's direction was great, but I was forced to rest for a while. I took a pause from creating vintage furniture and slowed down my pace and stayed at home to raise the children. It was exactly the thing I needed. It wasn't until a couple of months that my phone began to ring. Many people called me for help regarding home improvements and decor. Many of the people calling me were from those who came to my house at one of the furniture open house events. I started taking on some customers one by one going at my own pace but it didn't take long before I had multiple accounts and was running the complete business of home remodeling. It would have probably made me laugh if I had told you that this was going to be the subject of the DIY Network tv series. Indeed, I am laughing a little when I remember it.
